Preface

The entrance creates the first impression of a building. It is the place where people enter a building or go from one area to another within a building. This makes the entrance an important aspect in the design and refurbishment of any building.

The design of an entrance is not a sinecure. Aspects like aesthetics, capacity, energy saving, safety and security should all be taken into account. The developments in both architecture and entrance technology follow each other in rapid pace and are relentless to existing standards. Of course these developments are also creating new opportunities.

For this reason this new magazine is introduced: Entrée. With two issues per year we will inform you on the latest developments in entrance technology and show you how fellow-architects deal with entrances in the design of their buildings.

In this first issue of Entrée the entrances of the buildings of Rem Koolhaas are evaluated. One of the world’s leading architects, who made surprising and interesting designs of building entranceways.

Furthermore, you will find an article regarding energy efficiency of entrances. In the last part of this issue you will find a number of projects from all over the world that show how entrance technology is applied in contemporary architecture.

You are welcome to enter our magazine: Entrée!
